THE YEAR 2016 ANNUAL THANKSGIVING

WELCOME ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY MR. AKINWUNMI AMBODE, GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE AT THE 2016 ANNUAL THANKSGIVING HELD ON SUNDAY 3RD JANUARY, 2016 AT LAGOS HOUSE, IKEJA.

We are gathered this evening in thanksgiving to God Almighty for the grace to witness the beginning of 2016. This annual thanksgiving service has become a tradition where we come together to seek the face of God for the continuous peace and prosperity of our dear State.

This service is an acknowledgement of the overriding power of God in the affairs of men and the need for us to trust in His grace and benevolence as a government and as a people.

As a nation, we witnessed in 2015, for the first time ever, a smooth and peaceful transition from one civilian government to another. Against all predictions of anarchy and possible unrest, there was a reversal of roles as the ruling party became the opposition and the opposition became the ruling party.

The fact that we are gathered here is enough proof that we are covered under the banner of God’s grace and that He surely answers prayers when He is called upon.

It is with this abiding faith we call on Him as we commence another journey in 2016. In this year, despite the bleak economic outlook predicted in many quarters, Lagos State will grow in leaps and bounds and take its rightful place amongst the major City-States of the World. Our youths will become gainfully employed; our young girls and women will be protected and encouraged to give their best; our entrepreneurs will experience a boom and our State will work for everyone.

We are determined and God willing, we shall achieve all inclusive progress and prosperity.

I would like to specially appreciate all our religious and spiritual leaders for their ceaseless prayers and intercessions for us as a people and government.

Indulge me to specially acknowledge our father in the Lord, Daddy G. O. and Mummy Folu Adeboye, for their commitment in the service of the Lord through persistent exhortations and prayers.

On behalf of the government and people of Lagos State, I welcome you all to the Annual Thanksgiving Service and, in the spirit of the season,I wish everyone a prosperous and fulfilling 2016.

God bless you.

Itesiwaju Ilu Eko, lo je wal’ogun!!!
